Ok I spent most of last night sitting in the er with my daughter and her fiance. She went to Flowers and was there by 7 and sat there. They did the prelims and then sent her back out to the waiting room. When she finally got in there it was around 9 -9:30 the doctor came in around 10:15 and sent her for a ct scan and was back in her cubical by 10:30. No one came back in until 12:30 and it was a different doctor than originally. All he told her was that everything was normal and would write her a script for pain. It took another 45 minutes at least for them to come in and check her vitals and give her the script and for her to get checked out. we were finally on our way by 1:20 this morning. Unbelievable. They told her that she had blood in her urine but nothing else, just ruled out that she did not have kidney stones and her blood work was fine and to follow up with her doctor.

Would have gotten better treatment at Dale Medical

you are right; your best bet is always the DMC ER! at samc or flowers you have an AWFUL wait....
i will tell you and i feel my opinion carries weight since i've worked at all of them. DMC has a fantastic ER and I have been very pleased with the care my family has gotten over there. Chase got so sick with the virus and we spent sunday night over there. Great, appropriate treatment. can't say enough about them!

Carolyn another factor in the decision is that last Friday we had two members enter the hospital. One was our dear Penny who is dying of cancer they took her to DMC and the other was a lady who was transfered by ambulance to Flowers. Penny who went to DMC was in a room almost right away and Linda who went to Flowers never got a room until late Friday evening.

I've been at Flowers Hospital many times and had to wait and wait. I had blood in my urine but the stone wasn't showing up on xray. They sent me home and told me to drink lots of fluid in hope that it would pass. I was back in the emergency room less than 24 hours later. The bad part was all the vomiting I did before they even took me back. When I finally got back there, thank goodness, they gave me some pain medicine. I ended up spending the night and had the "basket" procedure done to get the stone. I have been so lucky not to have another one. That was my 2nd stone in 5 years time. I drink more water now in hopes of keeping the kidneys flushed. The worst thing is having a kidney stone when you are pregnant and having to have a stint put it. That happened to me the first time.

We have always had excellent service at the Dale Medical Center ER - when I had a stroke, I couldn't have asked for better or more efficient service!  Any other time we have had to take my wife, Sharon, or the kids there, we were well pleased with the service.

waiting in the ER is bad enough but the speed as well as the quality of care you get is the real issue. if your regulas Dr is in dothan you can still use the DMC ER - if you need admitting then just tell them you need to be referred to your primary care physician.

I hope you are feeling better Michelle.
I like DMC too. I have spent a bit of time in the ER with folks and they do try to get you seen ASAP. The staff has always been nice too.

I spent some time Friday at DMC's ER getting some fluids after a bad stomach virus. I honestly could NOT have been treated better!!! My nurse was wonderful to me and treated me with the utmost respect and care. Even my family that was with me had nothing but good things to say about the care I received.

Is there an orthopedic in Ozark that anyone would recommend? I've been seeing a chiropractor for years for my neck and shoulder problem and I would really like to get another opinion. I know if I call Dothan, I'll have to wait weeks for an appointment. It feels like the bones are rubbing together. My husband was rubbing my upper back and he could feel something moving around. All I know is I have been in pain all weekend. I am sure the crap I am having to deal with at work is not helping.   The chiropractor says I have facet syndrome.

Destiny, while not an Otho Doctor, I have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express.
Perhaps I can offer a second back-rub opinion. (GRIN).
NOT a dirty old man, but rather
just a Wrascal.

Glad you are feeling better and I am sorry your son isn't feeling well. I hope he is feeling better since this morning and not worse. The poor thing, I am miserable with an upset stomach so I can imagine how your son is feeling.

As for the jungle... Send me your email address. You haven't posted or been around in like almost forever, lol.

Troy er is awful.
i have waited 5 hours before even getting to the back.
i finally told one of the nurses that i work there and i know that they dont have that many bad emergencys going on at that time.
i dont mind waiting when someone has a life threatening emergency.
but it gripes me to wait when i know that the doc is just piled up in his room watching tv or on the computer.
the hospital in luverne has a 2 hour limit. you can be in and out in 2 hours unless they need to keep a person for observation or they expect to have to admit them.
when they got a doc that came there that wouldnt get out of his room to see the er patients they got rid of him.

ive never been to troy but i have been to dcmc and i wasnt all that enthusiastic about it. i was seen right away but they mis-diagnosed me several times and almost released me that nite. it turns out i had appendicitis ( pardon the spelling errors its late lol ) and they told me i had crones desease and other things. granted i was a special case , my white blood cell count was perfect and i had no fever or vommiting but with all the tests they did the ct scan they thought that my appedix was part of my small intestine that was inflamed. but i do hand it to dr. durr he fixed me up and took it out 2 days after i got there. thats my only experience there but i have to agree that flowers and seamc is slow in the er but they see people by priority if syptoms. and if you ever go to e-price med theres only one dr. there from 10pm to 6 a.m. as me and my wife found out the hard way. moral of this story i no matter how bad you feel theres probably someone there that feels worse than you or is worse off then you . lets give the docs some credit theres thousands of us and only a few of them. oh and i hope everyone is feeling better now and michelle good luck and maybee see you soon if you stay in the area. ( hint to those that are still trying to figure out who i am im a tech insp out at rucker) yes thats right im not dd lol

all ER's have their "off" times and no staff is 100%. but the ER docs at DMC- they are hands down the best group around. since i worked at SAMC, Flowers, Troy and DMC i feel qualified to state that ...lol....

Troy is horrible, Flowers is annoying, SAMC is alright and DMC is the best. (I would say)

my doctors is dothan are fantastic and its a pity they don't an ER there as good as DMC. since most of mine are specialists (b/c i'm special- in a good way, lol) no choice but to head out to samc. i do love my rheumatologist, Dr LaCour. he is a great doc but, even better, a good man.

Yeah, tell me about those waits!  I know the ERs have their off days . . . . . but more than once in the past when I'd be there with one of my parents, they'd do all their tests, it'd be wait and wait and wait.  There'd be times when I'd look outside our cubicle, staff would be sitting around doing little or nothing.  Sometimes it'd be a wasted trip.
