I do not need to be Sheriff of Dale County. I have retired three times and have a income each year that many Executives don't make.
I am running for Sheriff because my Children, Grandchildren and Great Granddaughter live here and I want Safety, Security and a sense of well being for them and everyone else who live in Dale County.
My many years of service culminated as a DOD Police Officer at Fort Rucker, AL. I began at the Bottom as a Desk Officer, was promoted to Civil Liason, Awol & Deserter for 50 counties in South Alabama and South Mississippi. From there I was promoted to Police Services Officer, Operations Officer, Chief of Law Enforcement and Chief of Police. I did everything humanly possible to keep Fort Rucker Safe. Having been a Soldier for most of my life, I personally spoke to Soldiers deploying to war (like I did) and wanted to assure them that there was nothing that would stop the Military Police from Safe Guarding their Families while they were deployed. The Command and Staff provided me everything I requested, and trusted me to lead their soldiers and DOD Police. We met that commitment, and every mission assigned, thanks to the Leadership of those in Command.
While a 40 hour a week Employee, there were many times I could have drawn over-time to work gate checks, Vehicle Sobriety Checks, Surveillance. But, as a Retired Military Police First Sergeant, I worked with those Men and Women who worked for me, and seldom drew overtime.I was there because I wanted to be with those Men and Women who did everything I request them to do, and they did it with every ounce of enthusiasm and Comrade they could muster. They didn't call me Lieutenant, Captain or Chief, Those Soldiers and DOD Police Officers called me "Top" a title of respect that only other First Sergeants would understand and grow to feel proud of when addressed bu those "Top" mentored, trained and lead.
There are some problems in Dale County that can only be corrected by a Change in Leadership. Audits that were total failure, improper handling and safeguarding of Evidence, Failure to record receipts or provide receipts for cash received, etc., etc. There were issues of fraternizing with Criminal elements, Gambling, illegal gun transfers by Police Officers to Convicted Felons, etc., etc. The list goes on and one.
If you will consider me as your Sheriff of Dale County, I will swear that I will do everything humanly possible to correct all these Shortcomings within the first 90-120 days.
My mission is to bring Leadership to the Dale County Sheriff's Office. I will be out front leading the Men and Women of the DCSO, mentoring, teaching, guiding them in their daily duties. Congratulating them when they do well, mentoring and training when they don't do too well. But I am a Leader, I will give every ounce of energy I have, use every thing I have been trained in to teach before discipline. It cost too much money to train someone to be a Police Officer/Deputy only to fire them over a knee jerk reaction,,,Real Leaders build, train, educate, and stand beside those who lay their life on the line everyday for us. Real Leadership is the Art of influencing people to excel because they want to, not because they are being made to. If you will trust me with those you send me, I will give my life to make them even better than when you send them. I am a on the Job, in the field Leader. My Post will be with the Men and Women of the Dale County Sheriff's Office, where ever, whenever they are sent in to harms way.
I have led men in Combat. As a 24 year old Sergeant, I was responsible for a unit I named "Road Runners" a Mobile Unit that operated throughout the Central HIghlands of Vietnam. I had to train, mentor, feed, arm, supply and keep alive those soildiers, Their lives came before mine, but it made me a better Soldier, a better leader! I am ready for the Job of Sheriff of Dale County. I will never embarrass our home or your loved ones. I will never, ever, send your loved ones in to harms way without the necessary training, equipment and Confidence they need to fulfill the Law Enforcement Mission, so help me God.
